CASA SILVA HARVEST REPORT
A Challenging Yet Promising Vintage
The 2024 harvest presented a unique set of challenges that tested our winemaking expertise. A particularly wet winter and spring significantly delayed bud break and fruit set, pushing back the harvest window by several weeks. The prolonged ripening period allowed for exceptional phenolic development and natural acidity, laying the groundwork for wines of remarkable depth and complexity. While these conditions extended the harvest season, we were met with the reward of exceptional fruit quality.
Despite the logistical hurdles posed by the delayed harvest, we are thrilled with the potential of the 2024 vintage. The combination of cool nights and warm days resulted in grapes with vibrant aromatics and balanced sugar-acid ratios. Our vineyards in Colchagua and Patagonia have delivered particularly outstanding fruit, showcasing the unique character of their respective terroirs. We anticipate wines that are both elegant and powerful, with a distinct sense of place.
As we embark on the winemaking process, we are excited to explore the full potential of these grapes. The 2024 vintage promises to be a memorable one, offering wines that reflect the resilience of our vines and the passion of our winemaking team.
Harvest Report 2024
The 2022-2023 season concluded around April 20th with the harvest of late varieties like Carmenere in most valleys, marking the start of the 2023-2024 season with pruning and winter vineyard management. July and August 2023 were exceptionally rainy, culminating in a severe storm that flooded numerous vineyards. Rivers and estuaries overflowing from the Andes Mountains to the Pacific Ocean inundated the central region.
A silver lining of this event was the replenishment of water reserves in numerous reservoirs throughout the country's central-southern region, the heart of Chilean viticulture.
Conversely, maximum winter temperatures were mild and gradually increased until November. The subsequent spring was notably colder and wetter than its predecessor, delaying bud break and all vine development stages. As a result, the 2024 harvest commenced 10 to 20 days later than the previous season in most Chilean wine valleys.
